The Fifth Element

For this project, we were assigned to create an environment piece inspired by the universe of the sci-fi film, The Fifth Element I chose to explore and design the possible home world of Diva Plavalaguna, the elegant yet mysterious opera singer who plays a critical role in the film.

Original Design and Drawing by Patrice Garcia

Studying the design and performance of the Diva, I felt that she comes from a rare alien race that lives on a secluded planet, away from fast-paced, city lifestyles. With that in mind, I saw the opportunity to utilize and reiterate the Ancient Egyptian culture and motifs (lightly touched in the actual film), and apply it to the Diva's race and homeland.

Above is the the final environment piece. While there's still room for improvement, this project definitely added a lot of mileage to my skill. Fairly pleased on how it turned out :)

Gary Soto's Treehouse

As one of the biggest projects of our VizDev Class, this assignment challenged us to not only design a treehouse, but also exhibit the personality and story of its owner, Gary Soto; a Fresno teen from the 1960s. No doubt it was a tough project, but it was fun exploring and designing the treehouse I never had. :)

Although the final paintings aren't perfect, I felt that I made a significant break-through in practicing digital rendering.

"First Shot" (at 3D Modeling)

Now I have a Flare Gun. Ho! Ho! Ho!

I learned two big things in my 3D Modeling Class:
1) More patience
2) I like to texture

More semester work coming soon!

2011-2012 Winter Post

This winter break I kept myself busy with a lot of stuff. Artistically, I messed around (literally) and experimented like crazy; mainly with mixed media. Most were chaotic disasters, but I had a few happy accidents here and there. Here are some of those accidents:

Like what you see?
There's more silly stuff on my tumblr that you are welcome to take a look at.
Hope you like :)

Animation Galore!

This past semester was purely concentrated on 2D animation. It was tough, but fun too.
The following is a collection of work I did in Ani114:

  1. The first video is a reel of traditional pencil tests, including the ball bounce, the brick drop, the flour sack drop, the paper drop and the water balloon drop; followed by the mechanical and personality walk (which was perhaps my favorite test) *note, some drops are repeated for clarity*
  2. The second video was our final animation project, known as the "Sack Pantomime". Rules: Animate a flour sack that a) showed personality, b)interacted with an inanimate object and c) displayed a change of emotion.
  3. Finally, the last video is the Animation Sketchbook project. Here, there were no rules. Anything goes. Just animate and have fun.

Big Thanks and Credit to Ariele S. for helping me out with some of these projects :)
